Clinical phototherapy

UVB light therapy

Trichology-led UVB phototherapy for scalp conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and vitiligo — with a personalised treatment plan, monitored dosing, and ongoing review at The Tonic Clinic.

Why UVB phototherapy

Targeted light for scalp conditions

A established clinical approach to help calm inflammation, support skin renewal, and improve the appearance of affected scalp areas over a structured course.

Condition-focused care

Designed for dermatological scalp concerns — not hair thinning — with protocols tailored to your diagnosis and goals.

Monitored dosing

Session length and frequency are planned and adjusted by your clinician to balance results with safety.

Scalp-specific delivery

Treatment is adapted for the scalp, including how we work around existing hair where present.

Trichology-led review

Progress is reviewed regularly so your course can be refined as your scalp responds.

Is it right for you?

Suitability & what’s included

UVB is offered where clinically appropriate — suitability and pricing are confirmed at consultation.

Who it is for

Ideal candidates

Suitable for clients with scalp conditions that may benefit from medically recognised phototherapy, as assessed by our team.

  • Scalp psoriasis or eczema
  • Scalp vitiligo or patchy pigment loss
  • Persistent inflammation or flaking linked to a diagnosed condition
  • Clients referred or advised to explore UVB by a healthcare professional
  • Those needing a structured in-clinic phototherapy plan

What is included

Your care pathway

  • Scalp assessment and suitability review
  • Personalised UVB treatment plan and course length
  • Supervised in-clinic phototherapy sessions
  • Dosage monitoring and progress reviews
  • Aftercare and home-care guidance between visits

This is not the same as low-level light therapy (LLLT), which supports follicle activity for hair thinning at £15 per session. UVB pricing and session plans are confirmed after consultation based on your condition and course requirements.

We booked a £40 consultation for my 15 year son who is worried about his hairline. Sarah was incredibly welcoming and friendly. It’s clear she is really knowledgeable and was able to look at my son’s scalp and assess his hair. My son felt very comfortable and has been reassured. He left with loads of great tips and routines to keep ahead of, and prevent, hair loss. I would definitely recommend this Clinic.

I recently had my first consultation with Sarah regarding some hair growth concerns I’d been experiencing. From the moment I arrived at the clinic I was met with a super friendly and welcoming lady. Straight away felt at ease which was very reassuring. Sarah listened to all of my concerns and was very thorough with looking at my hair and scalp. Sarah was very open and honest with her findings and I have since received a very in depth report with details of how best to treat my symptoms. I am very hopeful and excited to start my hair growth journey with Sarah! Would absolutely recommend. Thankyou again xx

Sarah is extremely knowledgeable, and highlighted issues I wasnt even aware of. She explained the reasons and cause of my issues and explained clearly and concisely my options without trying to upsell her own services. Ill definitely be back for a follow up in a few months and to discuss next steps.

FAQs

Common questions

How is UVB different from LLLT?
UVB phototherapy treats scalp conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and vitiligo with clinically supervised ultraviolet B light. LLLT uses low-level light at a different wavelength to support follicle activity for hair thinning — priced at £15 per session.
Why is pricing only given at consultation?
Course length, session frequency, and scalp coverage vary significantly between clients. We provide guide pricing after assessment so your plan is accurate and transparent.
Do I need a GP referral?
Not always — we assess suitability in clinic. If you are under ongoing medical care for your condition, please bring details of your diagnosis and current treatment to your consultation.
Is UVB safe for the scalp?
When delivered as a supervised course with monitored dosing, UVB is a recognised phototherapy approach. Your clinician will explain risks, eye protection, and any precautions relevant to you.
Can UVB help with hair loss?
UVB is primarily for scalp dermatological conditions. For hair thinning, treatments such as PRP, exosomes, stem-cell programmes, or LLLT are usually more appropriate — we advise at consultation.
