This policy explains the cookies used on thetonicclinic.com — what each one is for, how long it lasts, and how to change your mind. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers personal information more generally.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. Some are essential — without them your shopping basket would empty every time you moved to a new page. Others are optional, and are used to measure how the site is performing or how well our advertising works.
Some cookies are set by us. Others are set by the companies whose services we use, such as Google. Both kinds are listed below.
Your choices
When you first visit the site you are asked which cookies you are happy with. Only the strictly necessary ones are used without your agreement — everything else depends on what you choose.
You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link on the site, or by deleting cookies in your browser, which will bring the banner back on your next visit. Declining optional cookies does not stop you using any part of the site, including the shop.
Strictly necessary cookies
These make the site work. They cannot be switched off, and they do not track you across other websites.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
cookieyes-consent | CookieYes | Remembers which cookies you agreed to, so you are not asked on every page | 1 year |
woocommerce_cart_hash | WooCommerce | Tells the site when the contents of your basket have changed | Until you close the browser |
woocommerce_items_in_cart | WooCommerce | Records whether there is anything in your basket | Until you close the browser |
wp_woocommerce_session_… | WooCommerce | Links your browser to your basket and order while you shop | 2 days |
wordpress_test_cookie | WordPress | Checks whether your browser accepts cookies at all | Until you close the browser |
wordpress_logged_in_… | WordPress | Keeps clinic staff signed in to the website. Not set for ordinary visitors | Until sign-out |
The WooCommerce cookies only appear once you add something to your basket. If you never use the shop, you will never receive them.
Analytics cookies
These tell us how the site is used — which pages people read, how they found us, and where they give up. We use it to decide what to improve. We do not use it to identify you personally.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another | 2 years |
_ga_MVH3BWEHVW | Google Analytics | Keeps track of your visit so that pages viewed in one sitting are counted as one session | 2 years |
Advertising cookies
We advertise on Google. These cookies tell us whether an advert led to an enquiry or an order, so we are not paying for advertising that does not work.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_gcl_au | Google Ads | Records that you arrived from one of our adverts, so a later enquiry or order can be attributed to it | 3 months |
Where-you-came-from cookies
These are set by our shop software rather than by an outside company, and they stay on our own site. They record how you first reached us — a search, an advert, a social post or a direct visit — so that if you go on to place an order we can see which of those actually brings people in.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
sbjs_first and sbjs_first_add | WooCommerce | How and when you first arrived at the site | 6 months |
sbjs_current and sbjs_current_add | WooCommerce | How and when you arrived this time | 6 months |
sbjs_udata | WooCommerce | Basic browser information used alongside the above | 6 months |
sbjs_session | WooCommerce | Counts the pages you view in a single visit | 30 minutes |
sbjs_migrations | WooCommerce | Housekeeping for the cookies above | 6 months |
Content from other websites
Some pages include material served by other companies. When you use those features, the company concerned may set its own cookies, governed by its own policy rather than ours:
- Google reviews — our review widget displays reviews already published on Google, supplied through Trustindex.
- Google Maps — the map on our contact page is served by Google.
- Setmore — our online booking runs on Setmore’s own site, which you are taken to when you book.
- Stripe and Klarna — used at checkout to take payment. They set cookies needed to process the payment and to prevent fraud.
- Google Fonts — the typefaces used on the site are served by Google.
If you would rather not load an embedded map or review widget, declining optional cookies and avoiding those pages is the surest way.
Managing cookies in your browser
Every modern browser lets you block or delete cookies. It is usually under Settings, then Privacy. Bear in mind that blocking all cookies — including the strictly necessary ones — will stop the shop working, and some sites will behave oddly.
The Information Commissioner’s Office publishes plain-English guidance on cookies at ico.org.uk.
Changes and questions
We review this list when we change the tools we use, and update the date at the top. If you have a question about cookies, or you think something here is out of date, please tell us — admin@thetonicclinic.com or 07990 367561.
